On the Drawing Board

September 2, 2018

Was just going through some old files to update my Comic Art Fans page and wanted to share some of those pieces here too!

First up, here is a pic posted by Krysten Ritter where she is holding a binder full of art and letters written by fans for her birthday. My art of Chloe/Tall Slut No Panties from “Don’t Trust the B” was chosen to be the cover!

Next up is a recent piece, a Black Panther sketch done as one of the rewards for the Highspot Kickstarter.

Next up, I’ve always loved the cover to Action Comics #2, so I decided to do a cover recreation of it

And, seems silly to not do one of Action #1 since I already did up the logo

That’s about it for now, but if I come across anything else cool I’ll pop it up on here for you!

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update now that I’m back home from TerrifiCon up in Connecticut. It was my first time going to that show and I have to say, if you ever have a chance to go you should definitely check it out! It was an absolute blast with an amazing artist’s alley and great deals to be found. I picked up a suitcase full of kids books for my friend to hand out to patients at his practice, as well as found a few things for myself and my sister who came along to her first show ever. Here’s a pic of the 2 of us, and her lunch, at our table

I only did a handful of sketches this weekend since I was there mostly to help Jerry Ordway at his table, but here are pics of one of them

And, speaking of sketches, my goal for this show was to get comic legend Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez to do a sketch of Kate for me having missed him at Heroes. Lindz and I ran to his table first thing Saturday and were first in line, and Sunday we came back by to grab this!

Of course, could not be happier with the results!!! Lindsay, on the other hand, was tired of pictures…

Best part, when I saw this it reminded me of the Superman 50th birthday Time magazine cover, so I asked Jerry if he would ink it as a homage of that piece and he agreed! Will share that when he sends a scan 😀

Speaking of Jerry, and Lindsay being tired of being in pictures, here is one she took of me and Mr. J, at an angle where I don’t look quite as short next to him…

And that’s about it! One friend I did a sketch for said she would send a decent scan of it when she got back home so once that comes in I’ll share it too, but otherwise that pretty much wraps up my con report. And good thing too– It’s about time for my next round of Advil Cold and Sinus…

A couple days ago I got a bee in my bonnet to do a painting of Myrna Loy. No reason, just felt like painting. Turns out, I started the painting the day before what would have been her birthday! Took a few days longer to finish but here is the final result–

A quick Spider-Man in honor of Steve Ditko.

Very sad to hear about Margot Kidder’s passing. She was, and will always be, my Lois Lane. So I decided to do a quick sketch of her which, as per usual, took way longer and got more involved than I originally planned…

Here is a recent piece done for the Library Foundation of Sarasota County who have teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida for this year’s Giving Challenge. They requested our female superhero hanging out with 2 Girl Scouts, promoting the digital resource drive for the library…

After years and years of not being able to do a cartoony version of Rambo that I’ve been happy with, I’ve finally hit on one that I like! So, Megan and I will soon be starting on our Rambo children’s book. Originally we had one in mind called “Rambo’s Day Out,” based on coming home one day while we were crate-training him only to find him sitting on the couch, but we wanted to give a bit more of his backstory first, so now the first book in the series is going to be “Rambo the Rescue.”

Here is the latest watercolor test! The plan is to do this book traditionally, with as loose a watercolor style as my OCD will allow…
